Oscar Best Picture List

In the fall, Terrell and I looked up every movie that has been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, and made a list of ones we really wanted to see (that we hadn`t seen before). Some one of us had seen once long ago but most of them neither of us had seen. Here is the list, and sometimes (if I remember) there will be a brief review of each film which will be updated as we watch them. Its been a lot of fun so far! Feel free to add suggestions of films we should watch.

The Help (the book was soooooooooo good. Different than the book but excellently acted.)

Moneyball (we really enjoyed this. Jonah Hill is funny, and the editing between real ball footage and the acting is amazing.)

*True Grit (lots of people died in this film. Matt Damon is weird as a cowboy. Didn`t fully live up to the hype but I was glad I watched it.)

*The Fighter (if you can handle all the swearing, it was REALLY good. Christian Bale is AMAZING.)

*Gangs of New York (I just did not like this film. Love Leo D, but there was no character for me to cheer for and it was frightenly violent. At the end I was just like, wow, NY has a hideous history.)

*Jerry Maguire (Other than a few surprising gross parts, this movie is surprisingly good. Very funny with heartfelt emotional moments. Good stuff.)

*Braveheart (Just brutal. But so well done. I couldn't watch some of the violence and the scene where his wife is almost raped made me cry, so upsetting. But well done and I forgot Mel was once attractive! Ha ha.)

*Citizen Kane (The cinematography in this is ridic considering the year it was made - it revolutionized how movies were shot. Interesting story especially since it was based on a real person, and that real person ruined Orson Welles' career because of this film.)
